somatic psychotherapy and mindfulness

Somatic psychotherapy is the practice of learning to tap into your felt sense (sensing from the inside out) in any given situation. Somatic Experiencing is a model of therapy created by Peter Levine, that gives tools for opening a dialogue with the body, uncovering the ways the body has held, shut down, frozen up, in response to stress, tension, trauma. By listening and slowing down, we can begin to find resilience, and resolve unprocessed traumas and difficult life experiences. Through finding authentic resources to hold the pain, we can transform deep seated patterns of protection that have kept us stuck in trauma response, and anxiety, and start living with more authenticity and vitality. Mindfulness teaches presence, acceptance and compassion and is imperative for navigating the uncertainty of life.

ARCHETYPAL PSYCHOLOGY, ART AND RITUAL

. Healing is not a linear experience. At times we need to bring in the stories that help us get through the dark times of our lives. Connecting to mythic landscapes, super heroes without and within, our lost and forlorn inner child who needs our acceptance, guidance and support to integrate with our adult selves, and ritual can all help us find secure footing in order to move forward, to walk towards the light fully integrated and transformed. We are all heroes on our journey and at times a helpful hand of support or encouragement is all we require to come back to center.

EMDR + Soma

EMDR ( Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) is an evidenced based model for trauma processing, and found to be highly effective in the treatment of PTSD , chronic stress, chronic pain, addictions, shame, and changing unwanted beliefs and behaviors. Through tools of EMDR we can bring more stability, reframe negative thinking and develop resources for resilience and self acceptance. EMDR uses a bilateral stimulation, through eye movements, or tapping, that can be learned and used whenever a person needs a bit of support to endure a difficult life situation, or to overcome thoughts that disrupt our inner calm. Adding somatic awareness with this process deepens it to be more effective and longer lasting.
